| ::::Before a festival take place in a temple, the rites is
started with purification ceremony. Balinese called it as 'mekiis' or 'melasti' where all
the God simbols along with temple accessories are purified in the nearest watersprings or
beaches. All villages in Bali would also held 'Melasti' every year just two days to one
week before celebrating Balinese New Year. Belows pictures are example of what you can see
on 'Melasti'. These one were taken from Purnama Beach in shouthern Gianyar town when
people in Ubud villages having their big temple ceremony in September 2001. |
